WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

Honouring Jackie's legacy

By providing age-appropriate care and support for adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer patients aged 15 to 39.

I'm a Supporter

Cancer affects more than the person diagnosed. It can also affect partners, parents, siblings, friends, and other loved ones.

Supporting someone through cancer can be rewarding, challenging, and sometimes overwhelming. JAX is here to support you as you support the young person in your life.

The Support You Need

It’s normal to have questions, worries, or moments when you need support for yourself too.

The Jackie Aziz (JAX) AYA Program is here to support you while respecting the privacy, independence, and choices of the person you care about. We can help connect you with information, counseling services, community resources, and additional supports when needed.

Supporting a Friend
Through Cancer

When someone your age has cancer, it can be hard to know what to do. You may want to help but worry about saying the wrong thing— or simply not know how to show up when life already feels busy
and overwhelming.

There is no perfect way to support a friend with cancer.
What matters most is being present, honest, and human.

Ways You Can Help

Check in, even in small ways.
A text, meme, or quick message can mean a lot.

Follow their lead. Some days they may want to talk; other days they may not.

Offer specific help, such as bringing food or accompanying them to an appointment.

Respect their privacy and let them decide what they want to share.

Remember they are still the same person beyond their diagnosis.

Take care of yourself, too. Supporting someone can be emotionally demanding.

You Don’t Have to Figure
This Out Alone

Whether you’re a parent, partner, sibling, friend, or caregiver, JAX is here to help.

If you have questions, need guidance, or are looking for support, we encourage you to reach out.
