When Ryan was diagnosed, at the age of 18, our entire world fell apart. Navigating life with a young adult already has many challenges, but we were not prepared for the struggles he was about to face. 

Everyone involved in Ryan’s care did their best to help him through this journey, but, in a system that lacks manpower, sometimes he was left to figure things out on his own. Being 18, he was too old for the children’s program and too young to fit in with the majority of others receiving treatment. 

The Jackie Aziz AYA Program is so beneficial – not only for the patients, but for their family and friends as well. Having resources and support geared towards teens and young adults makes us feel like we are part of a greater community.
